Master Corporal Sandra “Sandy” Elizabeth Rogers 49

Master Cpl. Rogers was born February 11th, 1963 and was a lifelong resident of the city of Aiken. Sandy’s grandfather, James M. Sprawls, was the late Chief of Police for the city of Aiken. Master Cpl. Rogers was a 27 year veteran with the Aiken Department of Public Safety. Sandra began her career in 1984 later to become a Field Training Officer and a Speed Measuring Device Instructor. Sandra was a member of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Association and the South Carolina Firemen’s Association. In 2003 Master Cpl. Rogers was awarded the Distinguished Service Award, the Lifesaving Award and in 2011 the Certificate of Commendation. Sandra also helped start the book bag for helping hands program.


The morning hours on January 28th, 2012 Master Cpl. Rogers was shot and killed as she approached a suspicious vehicle at Eustis Park. The subject would later be linked to other shootings and apprehended hours later in Batesville-Leesville.

Sandra was known as “Sandy” to those left behind including Father Clarence Jack Rogers, Sister Virginia R. Johnson, Brothers Jack Rogers Jr. and James H. Rogers, and partner Frances A. Williams.
