Deputy Sheriff Dewayne Charles Hester 39

Bladen County Sheriff’s Office

Deputy Hester was born and raised in the same county he gave his life to serve and protect. Services were held at Oak Grove Baptist Church where Hester grew up as a little boy. Dewayne was with the Elizabethtown Police Department for four years before transferring to the Sheriff’s office where he served diligently for only one year before his passing.

The Deputy was responding to an assault with a deadly weapon call on June 8th, 2012 when his car left the roadway on NC 87 and struck a tree.

Dewayne leaves behind a stunned community that watched him grow from a little boy to the man he came to be. Deputy Hester is survived by his loving Wife Tammie Hester and his “Daddy’s Girls” Haley Hester 11 and Hannah Hester 9. Hester is also survived by his Mother Elfriede and his Brothers Jamie and Kenneth.
